Commodore Corner
Hello CFSA Members and Happy New Year:
This is the first Commodores Corner for 2012 so here it goes.
Children’s Christmas Party – I was remise in my last message in not thanking Sherry and Craig Dunn for doing such a great job with the kids Christmas Party Dec 10th. I only wish our grandson lived closer as he would have loved it, especially with Santa arriving by fire truck. Thank you Sherry and Craig.
New Years Eve – Speaking of New Years, all reports of the CFSA New Years Eve party indicate it was an outstanding party. Monike Frost and Jeannie Deeks provided the food and the party goers were extremely happy with the outcome. Thank you ladies, and thank you Monike for kicking the New Year of right.
New Year’s Day – We had a number of boats out on New Years day and the amount of more than $1100.00 dollars raised for DSA is just incredible. Thank you to Bill MacDonald for your efforts.
HMCS CORNER BROOK – The really big news is that the requirement to lay up HMCS Corner Brook in our lower parking lot may not have to happen after all. After a survey, the ground was accessed as not being capable to support the weight of the submarine. We have been told to hold off putting our equipment back in place until Corner Brook is settled which should be end February.
A couple of positives came from this ordeal.
1, it demonstrated our ability to come together and work as a team to support the Navy and
2, we were able to clean up our lower lot which was a priority for 2012, so well done to everyone who lent a hand in this task.
MARPAC EXPO – CFSA will be participating in the MARPAC EXPO 8 Feb 12 at the Naden Athletic center at CFB Esquimalt. Our mission here to sell our Club and our training program to regular and reserve members and their families. We will have a display, including a 420 set up on the gym so come by and say hello.
CFSA Club Open House -We will follow the MARPAC EXPO by hosting a Club Open House 11 Feb 12. The plan is to have the club House, training room and shops open from 1300 to 1600 for people to discover what we have to offer. We will need some club volunteers to standby and answer questions and show people around. Also, if you have a boat for sale or considering selling your boat, this will be a great opportunity to show it. We will be offering free hot dogs out of the galley for our guests and any club members who are helping out. We had a very positive response from our Open House last year and got a few new memberships to boot, so see you there on Saturday 11 Feb at 1300.
7. Awards Night – The racing awards night will take place at the Club 28 Jan 12. This is also a steak dinner night so if you would like to come get your name to the bar. Awards will be handed out after the dinner.
8. Friday Night Dinners – Volunteers for Friday Night dinners are needed. Contact Monike and commit to hosting a Friday Night Dinner. Dave Cooke, Bruce Revoy and myself, (with Jan Whelan providing the desserts), will be host a “Salmon Enchanted Evening” on 10 Feb 12, so sign up for that.
9. Wednesday Games Night – As you have read in the notices the ever popular games nights is back on Wednesdays evenings. Come down to the club and check it out.
