The 2009 Moorage Application and Renewal form is attached at the bottom of this page. This year a single form will be used for both functions. A couple of extra questions are added. Of note is a line for an alternate contact name and number. This is not mandatory, but would be extremely helpful if the club cannot contact you about an urgent situation regarding your boat. It could be extremely helpful to Regular Members who deploy, or any member who may travel. (I hear that some people actually travel without their boats.)
The outer caisson was not removed in mid-February as scheduled. Our log wave barrier will remain in place should they decide to remove the caisson on short notice. This temporary wave barrier will be far less effective than the caisson, so all owners must take steps to ensure their boats are well secured for heavy waves and high winds.
Every boat owner must ensure that their dock lines are in good shape and correctly secured. In February we had one boat part her lines and cause excessive c0smetic damage to an adjacent boat. Hopefully the owners will successfully resolve the issue. The price to replace dry, moldy, chafed or rotted lines is far less than the deductible on most insurance policies.
Last week we installed a new grinding wheel on the bench grinder in the metal shop. This week an “as yet unknown” member fouled the wheel by grinding aluminum. At least an inch of aluminum grindings are in the wheel guard and the wheel is impregnated with aluminum. The wheel is no longer useable for grinding steel. The sign stating, “Do not use to grind aluminum or stainless steel”, was inches away and covered in grinding dust. In a possibly related task, a member used the workbench to spray paint white parts, leaving it covered in white paint. The Woodwork Shop is also being left with unswept sawdust on tools and the floor. Several Foreshore workers have keys to these shops and traditionally leave them open during the day for the use of other members. Access to our shops is an excellent priviledge, but it can only be maintained if we all adhere to basic shop rules on cleanliness, safety and proper tool useage.
If you see anything that should be added to our work list, or want to recommend any improvements, please contact me anytime.
